I’m a D.C. metropolitan area native. God graciously saved me in 1997, turning me from sin and blessing me to trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. My wonderful wife and I have two adult children, one of which has special needs.
God called me to serve the people of Calvary Chapel Reston Station (now Trinity Church, Reston) as their pastor for eight years, a labor of love among very dear brothers and sisters in Christ.
By God's call, I now serve at GraceBuilt as assistant pastor. I enjoy laughing and serving God alongside my family in Christ, building up the ministry teams, and serving the Shenandoah Valley community alongside my pastor, Pastor Josh.
Claire Akin
Women's Ministry Leader
Claire is the wife of Josh Akin and mom to their four children. She has lived in the area since 2001. Claire gave her life to Jesus in 1998 and has loved studying God's Word, applying it personally to her own life, and leading Bible gatherings for women. There is nothing Claire loves more than hearing personal testimonies about Jesus from other women. She also enjoys teaching children, toddlers and babies about Jesus at church, at work, and in her community. Claire is a homemaker and works outside of the home part-time, so can relate to both working women and stay-at-home mamas. Her hobbies include inventing new recipes which garner mixed reviews, devouring boring scientific studies with vigor, and watching LOTR (aka napping on the couch) on Sundays after church.

Josh planted GraceBuilt Church in 2006 with his wife Claire. They have four children and love exploring the small towns and trails around the beautiful Shenandoah valley.

Prayer Ministry
I accepted Jesus as my Savior in 1988 at the age of 38. I had grown up in church but in my young adult years I drifted away in my own search for spiritual truth. God says if you search for Him you will find Him and I was on a mission to do just that. I enrolled in a World Religion course at Blue Ridge College after coming to my own conclusion that all religions are just different ways to reach the same God. We were asked to write a paper to support our views but I was not able to do that. In the midst of that attempt I came across a scripture that God spoke through so powerfully that it changed my life. Jesus spoke to me saying “I am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me." I didn’t turn in a paper or return to class. I joined a Bible Study where I learned the truth about who God is and who I am in Christ. I built strong relationships with Christian women who have helped me along my journey to be able to say Jesus is my Savior, but He is also my Lord.
Stacie Cathcart
Administrative Assistant
Stacie Cathcart serves as administrative assistant to Pastor Josh.
Stacie enjoys volunteering in children’s ministry, spending time with friends and family, doing vendor events (she is an avid painter), and going to visit local lakes and parks.
Midori Gibon
Children's & Youth Group Ministries
I grew up going to church and loved seeing my friends and doing memory verse and songs with them. When I was 11 years old, in the bus on the way home through the big storm, I really got scared and prayed to God to keep me safe and saw how He protected me. I realized that day that I was scared because I knew I was going to hell if I die, and remembering John 3:16 helped me understand how much God loved me and made a way for me to go to heaven.
I enjoy getting to know the kids and seeing them grow in God’s word.
Jordan Gibson
Children's & Youth Group Ministries
I was raised in church and baptized as a child. I struggled through my teen years with doubts of my salvation and fear of death and Hell. At the age of 17 the Holy Spirit clearly convicted me that I had never personally given my life to Christ. That night after reading through the gospels I accepted Jesus as my Savior. Christ gave me peace and joy that I could never have understood before I knew Him personally.
Serving God in the children’s and youth ministries is fun and fulfilling. Teaching the Bible and building relationships with the kids is what I enjoy the most.

Jesus Christ has pulled me out of depression, and with Him, I no longer have to walk alone. 2020 was a hard time for many, but the year before that was hard for me. I was feeling down and my brother and his now-fiancée brought me to GraceBuilt that Christmas season before. Despite the pandemic, 2020 got better for me because I had God.
I like feeling encouraged by our God to take up my role in ministry. I like knowing He's behind our mission at GraceBuilt. It gives life new meaning.

Erin's friendly face greets parents who check in their children at GraceBuilt kids on Sundays.
Erin considers GraceBuilt her local family. She enjoys the area, especially in the spring and fall seasons because how they change the mountains.
Erin likes hiking or driving to see the beauty of the area. She enjoys going out to eat with her friends, and picking fresh fruit in its season.
