In our community, most are children of divorce. We haven’t seen marriage work. So, without positive examples most of us have the wrong idea of how marriage works. In fact, often, the marriage principles we live by are exactly what are killing our marriages. Do these sound familiar?
- Marriage is 50/50
- If I’m not happy, there’s something wrong with my marriage
- I can change him
- She completes me
- Just wait, he will out grow it.
- I deserve…
- You don’t have to work for love
And with such a faulty foundation, our marriages suffer, we grow old alone, our children carry our burdens, and churches, and communities fail. So it is good to look instead at Biblical principles of marriage: How to choose the right partner, and to nurture your marriage relationship above all others.
