Stay On Course
- 1 Corinthians 10:14-33
- Josh Akin
Have you ever noticed how a person can be on the right course in life, perhaps they love the Lord, they have strong relationships, and healthy disciplines. But then you run into them say, 10 years later, and they lost it all. Their life has all fallen apart. Because life is a journey of years and decades, and getting off-course the smallest amount is only revealed over time.
For example if you take a sailboat from the beautiful Oregon coast and set a course for Sydney, Australia, your journey will take about 3 months. But you better check your bearing every day, throughout the day, because if you are off course even just 2 degrees, you will find at the end of your journey there won’t be any kangaroos. You will have missed your destination by 270 miles! You missed the entire continent.
But 2 degrees is hardly noticeable to the eye, a casual look at maps once every couple days will not suffice. For a long journey you must constantly work to stay on course. So, now you see Satan’s strategy, get you off-course even just a little will do, and you will find at then end of your life you still believe but you wasted your life, and at worst you will have finished your life and abandoned the faith. You missed the continent.
In 1 Corinthians 10, we will see how Satan tries to lure the Christian off-course, not a lot lest we notice and fix the problem, but just enough that we might miss out on a life of significance, or worse, miss out on the real life awaiting us in Heaven.
