Before You Call Him Boyfriend

"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers." — 2 Corinthians 6:14
You've heard that verse at a wedding rehearsal. Maybe from a worried mother. It's what we hand young people when they start dating someone who doesn't love Jesus.
That's fair. It's true.
But is that all a yoke is?
A yoke is a beam of wood across the shoulders of two animals. Same direction. Same pace. Same field. When one turns, the other turns — whether he wanted to or not.
That's not just marriage. That's a business partner. A best friend. A political hero. Anyone whose direction becomes your direction.
Ulysses S. Grant won a war. Vicksburg. Lee's sword at Appomattox. Two terms as President. Nobody in America was harder to beat.
Then he retired and went into business with a young man named Ferdinand Ward. Wall Street called Ward the Napoleon of Finance. Grant handed him his name and his savings.
Ward was running a swindle. In May of 1884 the firm collapsed, and Grant walked out of his own office with eighty dollars to his name.
The general the Confederate Army could not beat was ruined by an ally.
