Four Faces of Christ | Bible Study Ezekiel 1

Four Faces of Christ | Bible Study Ezekiel 1

Ezekiel lost everything. He was forced to live in a faraway land, while his homeland was being destroyed. But God gave him a vision of God that has captivated believers ever since. He looked and saw a cloud of fire, and from it flew four living creatures each with four wings, and faces. Some things are so strange and difficult to understand that we would think they would disappear with time, forgotten to the ages. But this foreigner’s vision of God was rediscovered by those who walked with Jesus. The disciples wrote down their testimony of Jesus’s life, death on the cross, and His resurrection. And the earliest copies of these testimonies, we call them gospels, associated Jesus with these four faces. The earliest writing is by Irenaeus, who was disciple of John, the writer of the gospel of John. Irenaeus linked these four faces to four facets of who Jesus is. This is portrait of Jesus a part of Christian history ever since, found in architecture, art, and literature for two thousand years.
