The Root | Bible Study Isaiah 11

The Root | Bible Study Isaiah 11
God’s creation reflects His glory and plan. Take for example a tree. Did you know that if you can cut a tree down it grows back. It is true, if in healthy soil, in favorable conditions, even a tree hundreds of years old, chop it down; wait, in time, it will sprout again. In it’s own time, the tree trunk brings forth a sprout, that grows into a new tree. Not all trees can, some are more prone to rebirth than others. One perhaps most famous in this regard is the fig tree, which Jesus likened to His people Israel. The fig tree unlike many others, can be cut completely off, no trunk; nothing above the soil to be seen— only the root remains. And in its time, the root burst from the ground and grow into a new fruitful tree. Isaiah sees a portrait of just such a Root. When Israel is cut off, invisible to the eye, the day will come when from nowhere will burst Jesus, “and His resting place shall be glorious.” Isaiah’s portrait of Jesus is of Him when Israel is reborn, and He alone sits as Ruler in the 2nd Advent of Christ. Together let’s see from Isaiah’s prophecy His centrality, the peace of Christ over us, and His Banner drawing us together.
